The last month has been insane! Between work events, traveling, and the holidays, time is moving so quickly!
“The Boyfriend” and I met up for a late dinner at new restaurant Three Hens in Murray Hill. We were looking for a place near my apartment that was casual but not a diner.
The Three Hens web site describes the restaurant as:
“[serving] American cuisine with custom cocktails and a varied wine list. The home-style cooking uses fine local ingredients, organic eggs, free-range chicken and prime quality meats. So the end product is honest and delicious meals with wholesome flavors.
Located in Kips Bay, the décor is modern, relaxed, with touches of country. Catch up with friends over cocktails at the bar or enjoy dinner with a bottle of wine from our reasonably priced, well-matched list.”
The decor is cool and the atmosphere inviting, but we were a little disappointed by the service. The restaurant is new, so maybe they’re still working out the kinks.
I ordered a gin cocktail and a glass of white wine, French onion soup, and the arugula salad: warm Bucheron cheese, tomato confit, dried cherries, and balsamic vinaigrette. I drink my calories 😉 “The Boyfriend” ordered the lamb burger, which he enjoyed more than I enjoyed all of my food. We shared a side of spinach, which was extremely garlic-y/salty.

- Murray Hill needs another spot like this (Penelope just gets too crowded sometimes!)
- Our server was friendly
- Our food took forever to come out. Keep in mind that I ordered a salad.
- Service was slow – the check took a while to make its way to our table.
- I think the food/drinks were a little pricy for the flavors.
Perhaps some of the wrinkles have been ironed out? I’d give Three Hens another try!
